Sher Shah paints a picture of Captain Batra from his familial and humanitarian side to his patriotism and willingness to sacrifice.  The good thing is that it has the enthusiasm to do something, but not the unnecessary frenzy that has become an essential part of patriotic films in recent times.

  After the opening scenes of action in Kargil, the film begins with scenes of Captain Vikram Batra's childhood in Palampur.  Father taunts Vikram that he will grow up to be a hooligan for fighting with older boys.  Vikram says he has already decided what he wants to be.  This scene gives a glimpse of 14-year-old Vikram's attitude.  The story moves forward with Vishal's narration.
